Through FCM’s Green Municipal Fund (GMF), we are working to ensure that municipalities in Canada lead the way to achieving Canada’s climate change and sustainability targets. We drive municipal progress on resilience and net-zero, through solutions that address wider sustainable outcomes across sub-sectors with a commitment to the principles of anti-racism, equity, inclusion, and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.The Manager of Corporate Sustainability is an exciting new role driving operational efficiencies focused on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions in close partnership with our staff-led Sustainability Working Group. This role will lead and champion FCM’s sustainability initiatives as we strive towards our ambitious target of becoming net-zero or net-negative in the near future.As a member of GMF’s Operations unit, the Manager of Corporate Sustainability plays a key role in fulfilling our mandate as a leader in environmental and corporate social responsibility. They will provide advice and contribute to establishing organizational policy, strategy, objectives, targets, plans and identification of risks and opportunities to achieve an environmentally sustainable organization. They will also ensure organizational business systems and processes are up to date on legislative changes, monitor activity and coordinate corporate reporting and integrated risk management.Key ResponsibilitiesLeads the development of FCM’s bold and ambitious corporate environmental and sustainability strategy and action plan resulting in the organization becoming net-zero or net-negative in the near future.Leads (or supports) the delivery of cross-organizational projects and programs necessary to deliver on FCM’s sustainability goals.Conducts regular reviews of organizational policies and procedures (travel, facilities use, procurement, investments, etc.) using a corporate sustainability lens to ensure that they are adequately enabling our goal of not only reaching carbon neutrality but going a step further to achieve climate positive outcomes.Leads the development of an integrated corporate sustainability scorecard, including tracking and quantitative analysis of material topics and risks using relevant elements of global best practices such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the Just Transition Framework, the Taskforce on Climate-related Disclosures (TCFD) and the recently released, Canadian Sustainability Disclosure Standards (CSDS).Communicates with all levels of the organization including FCM senior leadership, Board of Directors and GMF Council, the state of our corporate environment, social and governance performance. Acts as an internal spokesperson and advocate to raise awareness and consistency in processes, policies, and procedures within FCM and promotes the adoption of best practices for environmental and corporate sustainability.Leads a cross-organizational process to develop a corporate sustainability report which will be published and shared broadly.As subject matter expert on environmental and corporate sustainability standards and practices, provides research and guidance to support sound decision-making that meets the sustainability components of the FCM Climate Strategy (in development). Contributes to the decision-making matrix ensuring representation of environmental and corporate sustainability issues.Leads the cross-functional process for monitoring and reporting against GMF’s integrated risk management framework and more specifically, responsible for developing and managing the dashboards for corporate environmental risk and the GMF Operations unit.Ensures that all corporate sustainability initiatives and actions are aligned with FCM’s commitments and work on reconciliation, anti-racism, equity, and inclusion.With dedicated support, manages FCM’s greenhouse gas inventory.Your skills make us betterYou bring:Education:Degree in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Business, Environmental Science or Engineering.Experience:A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the corporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) field with proven implementation experience.Knowledge & Competencies:Exceptional communication, influencing and consensus-building skills with the ability to summarize and present complex, technical information simply and effectively.Experience and understanding applying GHG accounting calculations, goals & targets, and scope analysis.Understanding the impact of GHG emissions, energy, food waste, procurement, transportation and climate change as it relates to corporate operating practices.Experience and strong understanding of global reporting systems and legislation as it relates to corporate sustainability and ESG reporting frameworks.Knowledge and experience with the COSO framework for internal control is considered an asset.Demonstrated proficiency in desktop software including MSOffice suite, GHG quantification and data visualization software (e.g., PowerBI) and various presentation tools.Proven track record in supporting major GHG emissions reductions from corporate operations.Why working here rocksWe prioritize work-life balance with our flexible model:
