They are vital in ensuring our drivers have everything they need to perform their jobs safely and professionally. They also have the critical task of timely and effective communication with our drivers to solve any problems or answer any questions they may have. They do this through the collaboration with other teams and being a conduit of information with the Company.This role reports to an Area Manager and interacts with Company Drivers, Independent Contractors, Service Centers, management, Safety, Human Resources, and local customers. Who You Are:Strong leader – collaborative, understands their impact on people, acts with integrity, respectfully holds people accountable, focused on continuous improvementCoach and mentor – provide support and guidance to people to encourage them to be their best, which includes being able to identify both positive behaviours and provide respectful constructive feedback on performance concernsCommunicator – strong interpersonal skills with all levels of an organizationListens – carefully attends to what others are saying and to what they meanHonest – trusted and genuinely sincere when dealing with peopleSelf-motivated – desire to work in an unsupervised environmentGood judgement – a decisive individual who possesses a “big picture” perspective, exhibits sound and accurate judgment, and makes timely decisionsFacilitator – able and comfortable working in an environment of “influence without authority” and resolving conflictProblem solver – identifies and resolves problems proactively and in a timely manner Responsibilities:Drivers:Working with Recruiting and Sales departments to ensure proper driver levels based on revenue projections, new business, and projected turnoverOnboarding of new drivers, including 1st paycheck reviewSupporting driver retention and working with Human Resources on initiatives based on turnover trendsConducting 45-day interviews on new hires to determine engagement and satisfactionDetermining sustainability and long term fit of new hires prior to clearing the probationary periodAssisting on the conversion of Company Drivers to Independent ContractorsUnderstanding and upholding Independent Contractors’ contractsUnderstanding and applying local collective bargaining agreements, where applicableWorking with Human Resources to ensure all drug & alcohol testing is completed on time, as requiredMonitoring driver utility and working with the Service Centers to ensure appropriate levelsReviewing driver pay to ensure maximum earnings, and monitoring of overtime to determine if it is more cost effective to hire additional drivers insteadProviding input on industry and local market trends on driver compensationReviewing, approving, and submitting for payment driver expense claimsSupporting drivers in reviewing and solving pay errors with the Service Centers and PayrollReviewing and approving vacation schedules and ensuring they are communicated with the Service Centers for effective dispatchingWorking collaboratively with the Service Centers to ensure efficient and fair dispatching of driversAssisting with workflow on the Isaac on-board deviceWorking with Human Resources to manage sick leaves and return to work accommodationsIdentifying driver training and certification requirements to ensure drivers can be safely dispatched, and ensuring the appropriate support is identified and provided for proper completion of the sameEnsuring compliance with company policies & proceduresHosting regular terminal meetings and attending company meetings representing the terminalRewarding and recognizing drivers for behaviour that supports our culturePlanning and hosting driver appreciation eventsPerformance management and annual performance reviews of drivers, including the setting of measurable goalsWorking with Human Resources regarding progressive discipline and termination of drivers, when requiredResponding to and creating solutions for driver complaints or concernsCoaching and mentoring drivers with an emphasis on open communicationSafety:Collaborating with the Safety Trainer and attending all safety meetingsEnsuring the terminal is organized, clean and free of safety hazardsProviding back up support on reviewing Drivecam events with the Safety TrainersConducting regular Ride Alongs with driversCustomers:Staying connected with and responding to concerns of local customersGrow our local customer based through outstanding market knowledgeEquipment:Ensuring we have the correct amount of assets at the facility to properly handle all business opportunitiesWork directly with Shop and Washrack operation to expediate the fleet readiness.
