ACET’s purpose is to deliver world-leading research, enabling equitable, community-led energy transitions that can be scaled globally to reduce emissions and enhance community well-being.*This position is eligible for a hybrid flex arrangement*The salary range for this position is:
- Recruitment range: $83,094 – $91,625 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
- Performance range: $108,088 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.

Reporting to the ACET Corporate Operations Officer (COO), in collaboration with ACET Partnerships Manager, the ACET Project Portfolio Manager (PPM) will support, monitor and report on the ACET program research, ensuring research projects work towards the ACET mandate. The PPM will support the ACET research project pipeline across all five partner institutions, with reference to internationally recognized standards and guidelines on project and portfolio management.The PPM will also track and report on the ACET project portfolio to internal and external stakeholders, including the ACET executive, partner institutions, and funding agencies, ensuring that all required reporting deliverables are met.The PPM is strategic to the sustainability of ACET and is essential to navigating the complex environment for ACET projects. ACET projects are considered high risk and are generally multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary, funded by multiple agencies, and include international partners. The ACET program has extensive reporting and tracking requirements and the PPM will be responsible for ensuring that ACET research projects and research infrastructure projects demonstrate a high level of accountability. This level of complexity comes with the need for a rigorous approach to project, portfolio, and program management. The PPM will provide leadership and expertise to individual research projects while also ensuring that the projects provide a holistic program that meets the ACET mandate. Working closely with the Strategic Research Area (SRA) Managers, the PPM will be a key member of the ACET team and will support the implementation of ACET research initiatives and related projects.Objectives:
- Provide overall project management leadership for ACET, including advising project leads, researcher teams, and SRA Managers on best practices in Project management.
- Develop and implement ACET’s project pipeline, including project development, approval, execution, and monitoring processes.
- Support the development of collaborative grant applications with SRA Managers coordinated by the Partnerships Manager.
- Work with the ACET administration team, including the ACET Project Finance Officer and the COO, to manage the overall ACET program reporting to the ACET administration and funding agencies.
- Collect and report on ACET program metrics to support the ACET Impact Officer
The PPM works in partnership with researchers, managers and staff in departments throughout the University, including the ACET administration team, Purchasing Services, Research Accounting, Facilities Management, Systems, and Occupational Health, Safety and Environment. In addition, the position works with collaborating institutions and external research funding agencies.The PPM may periodically be required to work outside of regular office hours to support ACET events and to meet project reporting deadlines and may be required to travel nationally and internationally.Job RequirementsThe position requires completion of a relevant undergraduate degree, formal training in project management and strong accounting and/or financial knowledge. A minimum of 6 years relevant work experience in research project management in an academic or research-focused environment is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Experience requirements include:
- Project management experience within a formal project management environment, involving projects of varying complexity and risk with multiple stakeholders and budgets up to $2M.
- Developing funding proposals in a research environment
Knowledge requirements include:
- Expert knowledge of project management, portfolio management, and program management practices, methods, and tools.
- A thorough understanding of the concepts, principles and trends related to financial management, budget planning and tracking, financial systems, principles and practices.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures of research funding agencies.
- An understanding of structure, policies and procedures in an academic/post-secondary environment.
- Excellent computing skills using complex databases, accounting and financial systems, collaboration platforms, etc.

- Ability to effectively advise and mentor others with respect to best practices in project management
- Awareness of and ongoing learning about Indigenous communities’ history, culture, social circumstances, and protocols in BC and other regions of Canada.
Assets or Preferences:
- Relevant professional project management certification, e.g. Project Management Professional (PMP), PfMP, PRINCE2 etc.
