The Engineer is a professional engineer or geoscientist who applies engineering knowledge to provide innovative engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium to high complexity projects and/or operations safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.What you will be doing:This role requires experience with the design of electrical utility substations with operating voltages from 12kV to 500kV and demonstrated experience working with utility design solutions a in an electric utility environment.This position is needed to help with an increasing work load in capital project, emergency replacement and restoration work, asset management strategic OMA work programs and Owners Engineer review work.Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with the company project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis’, calculations, hazard logs, test plans).Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and the company Design Practices.Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.Design for the following Electrical Systems related to Transmission Stations:Ground GridSite Layout and equipment clearancesControl, feeder and compressor buildingsElectrical equipment supportsPerform various engineering calculations: short-circuit forces, ampacity, cable design, lightning protection, voltage drop, indoor and outdoor lighting, etc.Engages in the engineering of electrical utility systems, specializing in Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) studies.Performs EMT studies such as transformer energization, motor starting, harmonics analysis, IPP interconnection, load interconnection, and prepares study reports.Engages in modeling of renewable energy inverter-based resources (IBRs), e.g., battery energy storage system (BESS), wind, and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in PSCAD for various studies.Engages in modeling of transformers, circuit breakers, surge arresters, transmission lines, special drives such as VFDs, point-on-wave controllers, and other equipment.Provides necessary support to the planners in the Stations Growth and Sustainment department and other the company groups.What you must have:Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or with another jurisdiction and eligible for registration as such with Engineers & Geoscientists BCThe company uses a Digital Sign and Seal Technology. You may be required to subscribe to a digital seal technology service offered by NotariusIntermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spokenFamiliarity with CAD systems and drawing standardsAbility to use standard industry design/analysis softwareIntermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)Ability to provide technical directions to junior engineersAbility to manage design tasks including scope, schedule and costAbility to find engineering solutions that add value and to reach consensusAbility to communicate efficiently including verbal and technical writing in the English language, analytical, interpersonal communications and presentation skillsExperience in project management including estimating, cost control and project administrationSalary/Rate Range: $101.00 – $125.00 per hourTerm: 12-month contract; most likely to extendFor more information about TEEMA and to consider other career opportunities, please visit our website at
