Job description: Job DescriptionSenior Underwriting Consultant (REMOTE OPPORTUNITY)
Reporting to the Director, UnderwritingAs a key member of the underwriting leadership team, the Senior Underwriting Consultant is responsible for complex risk assessment and selection, contributing to departmental success through expert decision-making, mentorship, and client support.Key ResponsibilitiesAssess and underwrite complex facultative risks in accordance with our clientsunderwriting guidelines.Apply deep expertise in both medical and financial underwriting to evaluate high-value and high-risk cases.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, emerging risk factors, and best practices in underwriting.Demonstrate advanced understanding of high net worth (HNW) sales strategies and their application in life insurance; provide mentorship and training to others on these concepts.Offer technical underwriting support and consultation to client companies, building credibility and trust.Operate effectively in high-pressure environments, taking initiative to resolve complex and challenging scenarios.Exercise independent judgment within delegated authority limits, signing off on highly complex cases.Review and co-sign cases from junior underwriters while providing feedback, coaching, and professional development.Actively support departmental leadership through contributions to training, team discussions, special projects, and issue resolution.Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments to provide underwriting insight for client solutions and projects.Represent our client at industry events, fostering strong relationships with clients and staying engaged in the underwriting community.QualificationsPost-secondary education (college diploma or university degree) or equivalent experience.11+ years of direct or reinsurance underwriting experience, including substantial exposure to high net worth and large-case underwriting.Proven track record in evaluating complex substandard risks and applying advanced sales concepts.Professional designations such as FLMI and/or FALU preferred (or significant progress toward completion).Bilingual proficiency in French and English (oral and written) is required to effectively serve a diverse client base, including English-speaking markets outside of Quebec.Experience underwriting multiple lines of business (e.g., Life, DI, CI) considered an asset.Skills and AttributesExpert knowledge of medical terminology, insurance law, contract principles, and financial statements as they relate to risk selection.Ability to evaluate intricate co-morbidities and high-value cases with sound judgment and limited data.Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex decisions.Strong organizational and time management skills, capable of processing large volumes of technical data efficiently.Influential team player who fosters collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.Self-directed, adaptable, and client-focused, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and relationship management.If you are a seasoned commercial insurance professional looking for an opportunity to lead, grow, and make an impact, we encourage you to apply today!Apply TodayPlease submit your resume directly to Whitney Green via email at referencing Job ID: 76753About UsExecutrade is one of Western Canada’s most comprehensive full-service recruitment firms, with over 50 years of expertise in connecting talented professionals with leading organizations.We are proud to apply principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all our recruitment practices, ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates.
